I recently discovered this great artist from Germany (Düsseldorf).

Get Lucky and Random Access Memories

Finally Daft Punk are back, with a promising album.

For their new album, rather than using samples from famous artists, they got the artits to play for them (Except for the last track "Contact"). Apparently they worked on the album since 2008 but were not satisfied as it was still based on sythezisers. So they gathered some people to play their stuff. And not just anybody. First there is Nile Rodgers, the co-founder of the famous band "Chic". His basslines were always great, no wonder the Sugarhill Gang used his line from "Good Times" for their "Rapper's Delight" (that song was the first hip hop / rap song to enter the charts)

There is also the record producer Giorgio Moroder. I might say that he really influenced the dance genre during the disco era since his productions with Donna Summer (for example "Love to Love you Baby").

Then there is Pharrell Williams, I knew less, yet he is a successful producer and singer (and apparently fashion designer), Julian Casablancas, frontman of he Strokes, Noah Benjamin Lennox, known as Panda Bear, founder of Animal Collective, song writer Paul Williams and producer Todd Edwards.

The released single "Get lucky" is already in the top charts:

Some say that they brought back the soul of music, and that it will maybe mark a change in music, "Back to the instruments". For Daft Punk it will certainly be remembered as a milestone in their career.

I also like the retro-artwork. Since I saw the title it triggered a memory, but I was not quite sure where i saw that kind of writing.

But then I tumbled on the following image:

Yes, they did it. (Is Guy-Manuel pretending to become the next king of pop?)

We will have to be patient for a couple of weeks until we can listen to the full album.

I did a cover

I'm sorry I neglected my blog for some time. But that doesn't mean that I did nothing. In fact I'm already looking forward for a new album, I already have some almost finished tracks (and some random stuff I still don't know what to do about), even if I'm still not sure where I'm heading...

I'm lately having fun "singing". Well, the brackets are there because I can't sing very well, so I'm using a Vocoder. I shouldn't say "singing", "using my voice in music" may be better instead.

My first try was a cover I did a few months back. I rewrote the song "Something about us" from Daft Punk and added my voice. Positively surprised by the result I gave it my own touch by changing it a little bit.

I made this remix of "Revival", a song written by Neil Davidge (Massive Attack) for Halo 4.

I wanted to keep the spirit of the song, while adding an electronic "flair" to it.

The Rust Factory - Progress

As you (should) know, I'm participating in this project amongst other musicians. Each musician is in charge of one part of the story. I finished my part and a preview is already available on the site.


The story has been divided into different parts, and we could chose the part we wanted to work on. After reading the story I decided to make the third part "L'incident de la Basse Plaine". It is an interesting part, a turning point in the story : calm on the beginning but soon changing into a breathtaking run after a major incident.

Wormhole

My new album Wormhole is finally finished and available!

That was over a year of work. Initially I thought to release it around the end of 2011, but I couldn't finish it at that time. Don't get it wrong, I didn't work on it like "non-stop". I have a job, a family, I can't work on it all day.

I did some final adjustements just a few days before. A major "adjustement" was about changing the 6th track - Alcubierre Drive. Although I did the track about a year ago, it never really convinced me and I was about to take it out from the album. But then I changed completely the drums, changed the EQ, and added some kind of melody. The result is on the album.
